The Milk Loves You Back logo will appear on milk products like Masters, Pura, and Dairy Farmers that naturally provide 8 essential nutrients to inspire Australians to enjoy more of the dairy foods they love and come closer to achieving their recommended serves of dairy or alternatives.

  • Protein – for muscle growth, development and repair

  • Iodine – for healthy cognitive function
  • Vitamin B5 - for mental performance
  • Potassium – for muscle function and to help with hydration
  • Vitamin B2 and B12 –to reduce tiredness and fatigue

Why have we launched the Milk Loves You Back initiative?

Many of us may have forgotten how nutritious milk is and the goodness it brings to all the dairy foods we love. And while most of us know milk is good for us, it’s not a conscious source of nutrition. In fact, nine out of 10 Australians do not consume their recommended serves of dairy, or alternatives, each and every day.1

Most of us know that milks like Pura, Dairy Farmers & Masters are a good source of calcium for healthy bones and teeth, but many of us are not aware that it also naturally contains protein, iodine, phosphorous, potassium and vitamin B2, B5 and B12 which are all essential nutrients for good health, when consumed as part of a balanced diet.

The Milk Loves You Back initiative is all about reminding Australians about the nutritional benefits of milk.

How much dairy should Australians be consuming?

The recommended dairy intake varies depending on your age and gender, however, the Australian Dietary Guidelines recommend children and adults consume around three serves of dairy or alternatives each day, including milk, yoghurt and cheese, or calcium enriched alternatives such as soy, rice or oat milk. The recommended serves per day of milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or alternatives ranges, from 1½-2 serves a day for children up to 8 years old to 2½-3½ serves a day for older children and adolescents; 2½ serves a day for younger adults, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and from 3½-4 serves a day for older adults, particularly women2.

A serve of dairy provides the goodness of calcium, protein and energy, dairy's nutrients are particularly important for older adults, yet research suggests this group currently consumes just one in four recommended daily serves3.
